King Lear (1987). In which Jean-Luc Godard sacrifices Molly Ringwald in a ritual designed to bring about the rebirth of cinema. Possibly.

Last year we had the privilege of filming Underworld both on and off stage during their three-night sold out residency at Sydney Opera House. It’s a beautiful thing. Everybody’s a beautiful thing.

Back in 2016, I made a quasi-pilgrimage to Twin Peaks, or rather the towns of Snoqualmie and North Bend, 40 minutes east of Seattle. I drove around listening to ‘Xiu Xiu Play The Music of Twin Peaks’. It was the closest I’ve come to a spiritual experience. 1/2

What do you get if you cross pianist Andrea Lam, composer Matthew Hindson and a robot camera arm courtesy of DOP Dave May? This little gem. Congrats to Andrea on her new album and new ABC TV show - not a bad week.

We’re in a golden age of horror right now and Australia plays a big part in that (hello Talk To Me). The Moogai is another great addition to that list, scary af Aussie flick from Jon Bell with an A plus local cast. Screening at the House next Thurs.

David Cronenberg’s ‘The Shrouds’ gets its Sydney premiere next week, part of the November cinema season at the House. I saw it at MIFF where the audience response was wild. It draws on many of his classic themes, thrilling and confounding in equal measure.

I’m rewatching the X-Files, this time with the teenagers in the house. I can’t remember exactly when it jumped the shark, but I think there’s a couple of good seasons before I will be cringing from between my fingers and / or shouting at the TV.
