For the world's smallest shorebird, The Least Sandpiper is aptly named. It weighs in at around the same as an AA battery - just over 20 grams.

This bird and plenty more in our Quebec Birding video, out tomorrow (Thurs) at 1pm Eastern.

Rare bird sighted by me and my birding buddy Jason Lush on Tuesday. Caused some excitement in Durham Region, Ontario.

White-eyed Vireo at Ajax Rotary Park.

Beautiful views over McLaughlin Bay yesterday morning when we were out birding - looking for some shore birds and any warblers that haven't abandoned us yet!

The "mighty" Brown Creeper weighs about as much as a handful of paperclips 📎
...but try watching a paperclip climb a tree! 🌳
Look closely at that rear claw - nature's grappling hook 🪝

Our birding trip through Quebec has begun. Hoping to pick up a lot of birds sighting to give our 350 Bird Challenge a kick... Here's a Least Sandpiper. Cute, but not a new bird for us!

We're heading to Quebec next week, hoping to add a few new #birds to our 350 Bird Challenge - and perhaps a few lifers. Content from Quebec coming soon!

While we are away, we can't edit videos. No new videos for a while. Please be patient Approx date for next video: Sept 25th.

Had a go at photographing the night sky over the lake outside the cottage we are renting last night.
No remote and a cheap tripod and lens, but not too bad.
Think that's part of The Milky Way?

We're taking a few days to relax in Ontario's cottage country. Next video might be a little delayed, but we need a little rest after a frantic few months of birding (and filming and constant editing). Plus, it's a trip away for Sara's birthday.

Pretty pleased to see these two massive silk moths. My first time seeing this species.
Polyphemus Moths, mating. Named for the large purple eye spots on the hind wings.

A fairly rare Red-headed Woodpecker hanging out in Toronto's High Park for the last few days. Finally got a day off work to go see it yesterday. Only seen these occasionally in the south-west before.

Record photo for #BirdsSeenIn2025 showing some rare Brant making an appearance in Toronto back in May. One minute there was nothing but gulls, the next minute, 22 Brant flew in to forage on the short grasses.

Haha thanks.

Speaking of episodes, there's also a couple of Snow Geese for Canada here: youtu.be/GVVTzwcdb0I?... at 4:28s (Minesing, Ontario, Apr 13)

And attached is a Ring-necked Duck (Pickering, Ontario, March 11).

I'll have a look for more at some point!

@tonyrinaud.bsky.social Hey Tony, a very poor record shot of a Grasshopper Sparrow sticking its head out - for Canada in the #birdsseenin2025 challenge.
I have a reliable spot for them but they didn't want to cooperate this year!

Red hot… and completely chill. The Scarlet Tanager is one of the boldest bursts of colour in Ontario’s summer canopy - and somehow still manages to stay out of sight once that leaf cover fills in!

Starting to catch up on Ontario footage after being buried in Arizona edits.
This Ruddy Turnstone turned up not long after we got back—spotted with my visiting friend from the UK, @mtninetysix.bsky.social

You're not imagining it. The Turnstone definitely has a guilty look.

One of my favourite locations in Southern Arizona was Rose Canyon lake, a few thousand feet up Mount Lemmon. We'll be showing it in a little more detail in next week's video.
