Disappointing yourself by proxy.

Bipolar, atheist, software engineer, introvert, generally kinda lost, he/him

Not to brag, but cats tend to like me.
I'm gonna wander down OP's tangent a bit... but I feel pretty strongly that Logan is a beautifully written, shot, acted, and paced film that far too few people will see because it's wearing the guise of a comic book movie.

And that's kinda sad, tbh. Because it's really good.

I trust Ben Collins not to lie about that sort of thing and his assessment suggests the redactions aren't sufficient on the victim side of things.
Gonna stop looking at the Epstein Files in a second because I'm frankly way too skeeved out to keep going but I will say this: the CSAM isn't blacked out nearly enough while the faces of guys in ties are obscured by vanta black rectangles the size of the sun.

I'm glad I *already* had plans to make some slammin' breakfast burritos this morning, because I would have needed to make a store run after reading this otherwise.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

... in which an authoritarian figure takes his first major actions to undermine the representative body of a major governmental entity and transform it into a fascist empire.
a man says there 's always another gif in a dark room
Alt: Qui-Gon looks over his shoulder, then turns back to the camera and quips "there's always another GIF." (according to the edited subtitles, anyway)

Caveat: I'm typically presenting technical topics in a fixed time window to audiences with variable baseline understanding, so that strategy definitely comes out of different considerations from GMing... but I feel like there's maybe some crossover.

I find distilling things down to an "elevator pitch" (all hook, no substance) helps me figure out which parts of the substance are most important to me to bring back first... and then I can build up layers of substance in order of importance so I can adaptively shift between layers as needed.

That's "I didn't think I needed to tell you that trust falling off the roof without telling anyone and with nobody around was a bad idea" tier stuff.

I'm aligned with the not about not discouraging companies from engaging in responsible disclosure... but hot damn putting up an API that requires no authentication and produces valid keys/tokens for authenticating to other APIs that *do* require authentication?

That's really bad. That's 101 stuff.

fucked up environment where some of the worst threat actors are preying less on *systems* flaws and more on *people* (and their interpretation of how those systems work).

Figuring out how malicious shitbags will fuck with your things is a skill that's highly divergent depending on context!

As an anecdotal affirmation: I am the professional suspicious bastard for my division of the place I work for (not by title... I just care too much) and I would have only come up with like 3 of those examples myself.

Because while I'm good with the space I'm in, social media is it's own special /

No.

Apart from being a shittier experience all around for a myriad of reasons, I'm also not about to sign up to put ad dollars in Musk's pocket.

Anyone who wants to engage with me can come over here.

Is it bad that I can't help but (think about people who hear RATM or Linkin Park or like... Pumped Up Kicks and then have their mind blown when they pick up on the message that the lyrics are explicitly and intentionally saying) when I hear it?

JT, I think the internet has broken me.
