Oh, quite the opposite. For years there wasn't an API and we scraped the HTML directly and transformed it into XML before ingesting it. These days there is an API that we use but there's no registration for it.

All of the reasons essentially boil down to using money to get access no matter how much you dress it up in language about relationships etc.
