could it be that ".wales" or ".dev" are only the extensions? so like, its one domain that represents one profile only

for example, "testingtestingly.test" would be a domain representing a server that consists of one profile, and ".test" is only the domain extension like ".com" or ".us"

that is my basic (and probably wrong) understanding of it.

something I don't understand is:
if the domain on your @ is the server your data is hosted, how are there people with ".wales" or ".dev" domains? surely these domains are already used in other stuff?

- and other social medias can all tune in to your same profile, so your profile name and domain would be your universal social media identity, sharing profile information, posts and feed.

- so it would be like you could read instagram posts on twitter or vice-versa, made from the same account

...on your profile's respective server (hence the domain names our users have), then they have access to your posts and feed to show it on the application

- that way it can work like a normal social media app, but the app itself won't have access to your personal data, it will only read from it)

my brief understanding of it now is:

- your profile data is personal (although in most cases it will be stored on larger scale servers along with more users)

- then there's apps (in bluesky's case built according to this AT protocol thing), what they do is access your profile...
