My college has a new BS degree in ecosystem restoration/applied fire management. It’s probably also the only way that the campus can muster the resources fire resiliency. It will also train many future post-fire professionals and it’s great! But also just such a tiny drop in the bucket.

I teach at the local community college where I have watched the efforts to make our tiny campus more fire-resilient and I have been struck just by HOW MUCH it takes in time, money, people-power and equipment just for those few acres and handful of buildings nestled against the forest.

Her family didn’t lose their home but she started to cry. She’s strong with all the changes in her community and all the trauma she went through. For me it’s been the realization that it’s not if, but when my town burns down. The constant low-level anxiety in summer when it’s hot and dry and windy.

This hits hard for me, a resident of Plumas County who watched the town of Greenville burn down in the Dixie Fire. Very similar problems around the recovery. Then there’s the emotional toll: I recently ran into one of the evacuees whose horse I cared for at the livestock evacuation location.

I am a 60 year old woman. I recently decided to go on HRT for an unrelated reason, but since taking progesterone every evening I sleep much much better.

I am normal weight, very active, eat healthy. Started to be diabetic during year of long COVID symptoms (frequent severe dizziness); , extremely tired); got metformin; Now 9 month later feel back to normal. Just weathered second Covid infection without lasting issues. Metformin rocks!
