Not just this scene! Non-stop through the whole film.

First film of 2026 is Split Second, and it was a damn good choice. THIS is how you write a supernatural cyberpunk buddy cop serial killer thriller set in the far off future of 2008.

Unless I sneak one more in soon, my last film of 2025 is probably Clue, which I'd somehow never seen before

Maybe late to the party, but Caput Mortum is awesome. Rates highly on the spooky scale, has a really clever throwback control scheme (think somewhere between Amnesia and King's Field), and is a shockingly good mimic of sixth gen graphics. A really nice and focused ~2 hour experience.

How much texture rendering you want? All of it?

Revisiting Perfect Dark Zero after 20 years is wild. It really throws away everything that made the original so slick, but I can't muster the energy to be mad. Feels like the last, great gasp of the Y2Kool aesthetic. Particularly like the Samsung logo plastered in the corner of every menu.

Super interested in tracking down the Doom 3 book. How much could it be?

Man, even if the film's a disaster, I can't stop looking at John Eaves' concept art for Ghosts of Mars

It's been so long that all I could really remember were the incredible creatures, and I'm sure teenage me really didn't get the bigger picture, but damn Pan's Labyrinth hits like a gut punch today.

Crimson Peak rewatch tonight. Think this is destined to be a film I like, but also accept is stuck between being a traditional tale and a slightly too nod and winky take. His love of gothic windows never fails, though.

Having some luck with a smaller map for QBJ3. Said I wasn't gonna push myself but then I made some curves.

The Devil's Backbone, another winner. The defused bomb sitting in the middle of the courtyard, everyone swears is still alive... that Del Toro might know what he's doing.

Some other angles. The lighting has been in all sorts of different states so it's kind of between looks atm. Been bouncing around colours trying to echo the look of 70s pulp sci-fi and films like Outland. But I feel I ended up drifting too far away from brutalism.

Frankenstein doesn't seem like it's coming to my local cinema, so I'm catching up on Del Toro films I've missed/wanna revisit. Started with The Shape of Water last night and, damn, cinema.
