The way this was taught to me in college is very close to your defining the goodness of a smoothie. You're graphing one measurement per axis and using more than three axes, hence the hyper in hypervolume.

I'm not sure this is what you're looking for, but ecologists will use an n-dimensional hypervolume to define niches for organisms mathematically using more than three axes. It's called a Huchinsonian niche. I'll stop there, as even Wikipedia knows more than me (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecologi...).
