Really don’t have any more time for this discussion, so signing off.

Of course interest rates affected the cost of housing, and all prices. And those interest rates couldn’t be lowered until inflation fell to target -not something over which any govt has control; it’s up to the central banks. But inflation increased building supply prices, on top of that.

Google search: “did inflation affect the cost of building materials in Canada?” 👇

“ General inflation” greatly increased the cost of building supplies, affecting the cost of housing. It was/is absolutely a big factor.

There are a lot of variables to reducing poverty; my point is that this Liberal “hand out” did more to address the issue than previous govts have done.
Here is just one study - non govt, non partisan- that found the increase did help with food insecurity Of course there is always more to be done

Didn’t say there is no poverty; said the increased benefits reduced child poverty to the lowest level yet seen. A family with 3 kids under 13 gets around $22 K in benefits, and it’s indexed annually for inflation.

Inflation was a global issue post-pandemic, and affected the price of everything, everywhere. And it is Economic best practice for govt’s to use stimulus spending projects to support the economy during inflation; cutbacks and austerity measures should never be employed until things stabilize

What specific “gov’t handouts” do you mean? CERB payments that kept families afloat and businesses open? Or the increased Family Benefits payments that reduced child poverty to the lowest level ever seen in Canada? Or the $10/day daycare that let more parents work, and boosted the economy?

Almost every one of PP’s talking points but, mainly, blaming Gov’t for inflation/increased grocery& housing prices- all global issues caused by pandemic supply chain disruption and ⬇️ production; the constant lie about the Carbon Tax increasing cost of living. Every analysis proved that it didn’t.

Not a discussion of when it was “at its peak”; talking about the PC party that helped found this country, then served honourably in either Opposition or Gov’t for more than 75 years. Every party has its less honourable members, but none to date has lied to and misinformed 🇨🇦 like the CPC has.

During Mulroney. I didn’t say I supported the PCs, although voted that way once or twice if they ran the best candidate; just saying that they were a more honourable, more centrist party that represented a good number of Canadians, not dependent upon one region of the country to prop them up.

So long ago I don’t remember; pre-Harper and the formation of the CPC.

I’m convinced the CPC don’t deserve party status. They are a bunch of grifters and weasels, many of whom publicly support extreme right wing individuals and organizations. Let’s bring back the the honourable PROGRESSIVE Conservative Party in Opposition and get back to a functioning government.
