"it's fine". The acting, story, cinematography, setting, it's all just... fine. Nothing about it was terrible, but I doubt I'm going to remember anything about it either.

- just symbolic (and rough-looking) animated scenes.

even in a charming way that adds to the themes or plot - it just looks haphazard and unfinished. If I had to guess, I suppose this short is about the embarrassment of attraction. How feelings of desire can make you feel vulnerable and insecure. That comes across quite well, even without dialogue...

normal device in Chinese action films, or lazy writing. The acting was well done and despite my confusion I still enjoyed watching it.

thereof. Maybe it's a cultural thing that I just don't know, but often little things weren't explained until just after they happened. And they're so arbitrary, like rules for fighting get elucidated after the fact and I can't tell if that's because it's trying to be funny, if that's just a...

fun, gorgeous, kung-fu drama. Everything looks incredible - the sets, the wardrobe, the environment, etc. It's a very pretty film to look at. The fight sequences aren't just well choreographed, but they carry emotional weight as well. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the exposition - or lack...

making things feel incomplete. Performances were fine, the drama was good. Overall, good film.

her. Is it dementia, or something less natural...?
Relic is huge on atmosphere. For the majority of the film there's no jump scares or gore, just tension. And it thrives in those moments. Where it falters a bit is the lore - what is actually going on is never explored in a way that ends up...

that has a few small conceits, but is supported by fantastic performances from the 2 leads. It is also beautifully shot - very crisp and scenic.
Some narrative choices don't really make sense to me, all like most movies from this era it is slow-paced, but overall it's good.

a fascinating little film, but it is quite short and could use a more in-depth look.

Europe to be left in boxes in the basement of a museum. Owoo also discusses how then Europeans choose which African art to show, thereby choosing how people see African art, essentially molding an idea of Africa instead of lettings Africans represent themselves through their art and culture. It's...

shots, the only dialogue is a single narrator - but it's a powerful film. You see 2 people looking through boxes and cupboards of African art, statues, jewelry, utensils, etc., while Owoo speaks about colonialism and its effects. Most of these items aren't even on display. They were taken to...

the tension. The acting is impeccable and the story grows very organically. I think it's a little too long for its own good as it runs another hour after it's climax, but it is an enthralling movie.

black-and-white upheaval of MRI scans, animated to expand into view and collapse into themselves, repeatedly. All while cryptic poetry is read over top. It's fascinating in an unsettling way.

funny to sad to scary, not always seamlessly. But it does make for an interesting watch. Not great, but not bad. Middle of the road, for lack of a better phrase.

affinity for this old, clunky Soviet animation style. Everything feels discordant. It's a simple story overall, but it operates clearly without dialogue. A fun little film.
