Was called a writer, wasn't insulted. Sometimes runs (mastodon.onlline), sometimes fights (undeadbird), always dwells on it afterward

want a way to type musical notes into a search engine and have it give me likely songs the notes reflect because this is making me deranged... it's also surprisingly slippery to hold on to

@evanedinger.bsky.social On the topic of your vid today, another YTer from a different place who moved read similar things about his former home-- stuff like "well, we can order food and have it delivered... we don't get in trouble if we put garbage in the dumpster late at night." Like... OK?

Program that responds to those sending messages to a user by telling them how many people have made that same joke already

Thing you have to do every day that's unarguably important to continued existence but is so mundane and routine that you do it by rote, so much so that even a few minutes after the appointed time you can't remember if you did it, but doing it again brings its own risks

Managed to accidentally delete all the files on a destination USB drive when setting up a recovery utility

My rule has usually been not to put anything into just one place. I think, at least. This was before I knew how flightly flash drives were

Want a silence chamber, not only to keep sound out, but also to allow me to practice talking actually out loud without wondering how it's being received

If the digital facade were all we are, then sure, mutate me. I have a whole design spec I've honed down over the decades, ready to go. But no, we're more: carriers of weight, of history. Some changes gradual, some unwanted: through those changes, we share some glimmer of connection. Don't sever that

@handelabra.com Noticed the unity update, was wondering if there's any development or expansions possible on the Sentinels games given the state of GtG

Uh... how are those generators holding up? You know, the ones that keep the materials cool? I don't think it's in anyone's best interest for those to pop. Thanks

Search has a machine that tries to answer my questions unless I shut it off, but it doesn't remember I shut it off so it pops on again. Somewhere a server heated up slightly to tell me that Star Trek refers to warp engines as "hyperdrives." Basic geek level failure here, time to give up on the dream

Find myself slipping into a "if only this aesthetic can be achieved I will find peace" sort of mindset. Cults take advantage of this "if-only" desire for an ascent of some sort. My internal circular needs are also a trap, though my attempting to ascend, because it's MINE, leads to things being built

What else could all those servers be used for? Everyone gets hosting for Minecraft? SETI calculations?

@misfitsattic.bsky.social Hey, was looking at the website for your company, seems the link to Duskers on the main page in the upper tab-like menu is in the old format, with the dash between the words. Even is in HTTP

There's a thing some writers talk about, where you don't really want to tell others until you've fully written your piece, because letting it out too early can feel like the release you were looking for and the fire dies. I worry that ubiquitous release machines can sometimes extinguish our fire

I'm going to go hydrate now. That's how it's said, I think.

I mean I'm going to go to another room where I left my glass, bereft, probably in need of a scrubbing but whatever, go to the one faucet I trust above all others, and ask it for clean water. It will provide it, and I will gratefully drink

Been thinking about the mutability of language symbology, like you can be misinterpreted, willfully or accidentally, especially if one is careless, and as time passes and contexts shift the chance of meaning-drift increases, and yet there's a pressure to be elegant, efficient

Win's note pad apparently has a feature I only learned about today but it is MADDENING to try to look up any sort of anything about how it does it. The searches all talk about plusplus, which has more features but is not what I want to learn about. There's no documentation, the help is unhelpful

Getting rid of bureaucracy by maintaining a bureaucracy anyway (because it turns out it's necessary to have repeatable, modular processes to deal with millions of people), but removing all human judgement that makes such a system capable of course-correcting to allow for at least a chance of decency

@mote.bsky.social Wound up starting Prelude first, chronological order instead of publishing order for Foundation (past re-reading the first). So far it's much more interesting... you can tell he's had 40+ years of writing practice. Also, it's a blueprint for a part of the current season, apparently

Walked to the store. Foggy, morning after a rainstorm pelted the neighborhood. High hedgerow along the sidewalk, maybe a hundred full spiderwebs covered in dew all facing the road, each spanning trimmed branches. Scattered raindrops fell on my face as I walked, only passed a few people. Bought bread
