Heya, something with a fixed camera angle. There won't be much player movement involved. Thinking something like slay the spire or darkest dungeonbattle bgs

Heya, something with a fixed camera angle. The game will not call for too much as it stands as camera and player movement will be static. Something like darkest dungeon or slay the spire background

Oh yes Id love to take a look, ui was also something I was hoping to polish up as I went so id be very interested to see

That said, if you have any examples of game background work you've done, I would love to take a look!

Heya sorry I feel like this is going into commission request territory and I definitely dont want to waste your time. My intent making the thread was to ask for recs on storefronts or commission artist portfolios to see if I can find a style I can see working in my game.

In terms of orientation/perspective, I would assume something almost fully sideview like slay the spire, darkest dungeon, library of ruins battle backgrounds
Im really just winging it as I go with placeholder assets for now, but I was hoping for a more grey/stony, gritty, low fantasy dungeon feel. Not exactly grim dark, but that roguelike "going spelunking in a harsh dungeon" feel. Backpack hero and megaloot come to mind off the top of my head

Hi! I can provide a description for the vibe but im working on building out an inspo board with references that gives a better sense of what I'm looking for. I just didn't expect to get responses from actual artists so i'm afraid I dont have like a complete "commission request" blurb ready yet..

Heya, going to copy and paste a response to a similar question I got

Due to player movement/interaction with the background being minimal, I was looking for something hand composed that entities will just sort of exist on top of.. I do want variants for the combat scene backgrounds, but not to the point ill need that modularity from tile maps to build them
December 24, 2025 at 6:23 PM
Im guessing that's your work? Cool stuff! Im not entirely sure but I think the placeholder character/background sprites I've been using are 32x32. And I'd probably want to stay around that level of fidelity.

It would be purely decorative, as the gameplay is going to be mostly typing. So I don't see any items being in the map or breakable elements.

exist in place* i mean

Just single shots, it'll be a roguelike so probably something that feels like a small room while navigating a dungeon. Sort of like darkest dungeon room nodes? I'm using a placeholder asset here but something like this. I don't think needs to be tilable since entities will just sort of exist lol

mix and match those to get the vibe I wanted..
December 24, 2025 at 4:44 PM
I was hoping for more fully illustrated scenes to use as backgrounds for something like a main menu (even my combat scenes don't involve player movement so I wouldn't necessarily be making a tiled map). I some paid assets will split up the parallax layers so I was thinking of trying to

any good alternatives? I'm seeing a lot of generative content pop up on itch asset storefronts as well.

big fan of ansimuz's backgrounds, I think they align best out of what I've found so far, but figured it's worth asking around for something that better fits my use case (more dungeon themed variants)

I love your assets, I started off using the knight in one of my prototypes and can't see myself using anything else now for the character. This looks awesome as well, I hope you put more assets on the store over time, I would be very happy to pay.
