You know, I think that climate change denial is a problem, and I think that if we don’t have FEMA functioning, it might be hard to deny climate change. (This silver lining is very sad.)

SO MANY POETS have been cut from the program. It’s a brazen attempt to tell the story of America with mostly white guys.

Each year the website, Poetry Out Loud, is tweaked a little, which means that the “anthology” of poems changed slightly to keep things fresh. Usually, it’s a broad mix of contemporary or modern poems with lots of pre 1900s poetry too.

For the past lots of years I have taken students to compete in the Poetry Out Loud contest. It’s a recitation contest, or a poetry memorization contest. High schools hold contests, then there’s regionals, then state, then one kid per state goes to DC. Fun!

I hope your sister’s team won. Sometimes rude parents still have to watch their brilliant children get out-rebounded or outscored!
