I'm reminded how society doesn't see students as human beings. It's true that we must do everything we can to protect them, we forget that our children have aspirations to agency, too.
Some of us like children to speak, but only when they sound like idealized versions of us.
We can do better.

Public schools won’t give kids the amount of support time they need to be proficient readers - even when an OG trained professional wants to give them this support for FREE! Mind boggling!!

...so the key point is - outside assault with a weapon - police should NEVER be the first responder in a school. The first and second responders should ALWAYS be educators. I say this as an ex-cop. Even your SRO should not be first. Not that I believe cops are all bad. Just that they're not trained

Exhausted brains cannot function properly and come up with genius ideas. If we want teachers and admin at their best to provide meaningful learning, we need to make sure nobody is overworked.

Thanks to our very wise Board of Trustees, one of the courses I normally teach (LGBTQ History), along with 431 others, will no longer count toward the fulfillment of general education requirements. Just another day in the “Free State of Florida.” 🗃️
"The 432 courses that were removed from General Education range from Theories of African American Studies, Critics of Religion and American Multi-Ethnic Literature to Feminism and Globalization, the Evolution of Human Sexuality and LGBTQ History."
