Big week in Tucson! We installed two Bandalong Bandits to help stop floating litter in the Santa Cruz River before it moves downstream.

Huge thanks to the partners who made this happen: Cox Media, Sonoran Institute, and Dr. Luke.
Real collaboration. Real impact. One river at a time.

As we head toward the end of the year, we’re taking a moment to look back at the work done across our waterways.

We’ve shared a short year-in-review newsletter highlighting installations, collaborations, education efforts, and what’s ahead.

We’ve seen a lot of unexpected things pass through our litter traps over the years—but this might be the most surprising one yet. 🎅

From everyday debris to holiday visitors, our traps are still hard at work protecting waterways everywhere.
Have a wonderful holiday from Storm Water Systems.

Our team may take a holiday. Our traps don’t.
Bandalong and StormX systems work 24/7, even during the holidays, keeping litter out of rivers and streams when runoff still happens.

As we wrap up 2025, we want to say thank you to the partners who worked alongside us to protect waterways across the country.

From riverkeepers and conservation groups to municipalities, universities, engineers, and volunteers—real impact only happens through collaboration.

The Bandalong Bandit fits where bigger traps can’t—keeping trash from slipping through small creeks and tributaries. It’s lightweight, durable, and makes a real difference upstream.

Small trap. Big impact.

The Bandalong Litter Trap pictured here was installed on March 25, 2008. As of today, it has been working for more than 154,000 hours—quietly capturing floating trash and protecting the Anacostia River. Huge thanks to Anacostia Riverkeeper for keeping this early trap running strong.

Did you know?
Bandalong Litter Traps are designed to work with nature—not against it. Each trap floats on the surface, rising and falling with the water level to allow fish and aquatic life to move freely underneath.

Plastic makes up nearly 39% of all litter found in our waterways and roadways. Once it enters a stream, it breaks down into microplastics that threaten fish, birds, and other wildlife. Our Bandalong and StormX Litter Traps capture trash upstream—preventing it from traveling downstream.

Healthy rivers start with informed communities. That’s why education is just as important as cleanup. These college students spent the day learning how a Bandalong Bandit™ works while removing litter that would have otherwise flowed downstream.
