Amazing how totalitarians need to crush what almost no one reads, looks at, or listens to.

There’s a perverse part of me wants to see what DJT, the new chair of the Kennedy Center, believes is GOLDEN ART AND CULTURE. But it’s okay if I don’t find out. Really.

Yeah but wait: nothing is against the law for the president, right? The Supreme Court already freaking said so. Nothing is illegal for that guy. NOTHING.

Revisiting Carol Shields' novels after a Canadian friend reminded me it's been a while. My god, that narrative timing. That generous, unpretentious voice. I think America should become a Canadian state.

My mother, now 89, uncontestable Queen of Old-Idaho-Work-Ethic, knew how to get things done: "Just keep on killing the closest snake to you." (Snake lovers, we know she didn't mean actual snakes, right? METAPHOR.) Plenty "snakes" incoming. Thanks, Mom, for showing me how to swing a stick. Stancing.

I write fiction (sometimes nonfiction) portraying human experience in the arid American West: characters and settings too often blunted under myth and power. I don't do apologetics, types, "explanations." Working to perceive livable futures on a livable planet. Please help me find bsky community.
