Remember, the kind of stuff Raven did for the school was done WHILE HE WAS THERE. It didn't have to be automated to activate entirely on its own, which is the key problem brought up in this page. (Also the mass sleep was Abraham's doing.)

Passing along this Word of Dan info for anyone who isn't also on tumblr: "Tedd hasn’t realized it, but seer mode is sometimes subconsciously activated when under stress—or intensified if already in use. Tedd tends to miss this because it’s usually brief, and there’s nothing to 'see'."

Voltaire has been in Edward's house before, back before the changes to immortal law. It's a reasonable guess that he studied the home's defenses back then, and thus could advise the otherworlders on how to bypass them. (1/2)
