Debunking the plastic ♻️ hoax! Promoting sustainable solutions to end single use plastic pollution.
The evidence is clear - we eat and breathe plastic every day. When will we say we've had enough & push our electeds & businesses for real change? That includes making changes ourselves - accept that plastic is NOT and will NEVER be a "circular" solution...recycling is a lie.

Foam was banned in the state of CA in January; but it is NOT being enforced. I worked with the LA Times to expose the violators. Why isn't our state agency, CalRecycle, enforcing this ban?!

Have y'all see this? It's hard to believe. Mahmoud Khalil is now being held at ICE in Louisiana. Trump trying to deport him...he's here legally!

We owe our children a better world.
Trump and his cult cannot get away with this.

Yes we can! I'm fired up, how about you?

Lots of people asking me what I think of Trump's executive plastic straw order. I think it's a red herring. The wasteful straw is just a small piece of the massive plastic pollution problem; consider cups, lids, plates, cutlery etc. Single use plastics are NOT recycled & must be phased out!

Today, Oceana released a new, nationwide plastics poll. An overwhelming majority of US voters are united around plastic & support policies that reduce single-use plastics & plastic production. Lawmakers must take action! Plastic is harming our health, oceans & communities. And no, ♻️ does not work!

Well this is exciting! ☺️
I'm thrilled to announce I am working alongside the terrific team @beyondplastics.bsky.social My focus? Doing everything to reduce the ubiquitous reliance on single-use plastic, and pollution, in my beautiful state of California. I'm building a SoCal alliance! Who's in?

I picked up a single pill today. Of course it was in a non-recyclable plastic bottle, inside a non-recyclable coated bag accompanied by a non-recyclable coated receipt. It's all SO wasteful; our pharmacies must do better! 😩 When I travel outside the US, I get a simple, paper box. #stopplasticwaste

Is this part of the "premium" customer experience Starbucks is trying to create? 🤔 Maybe instead of kicking people out, treat your customers with dignity and serve them their drinks in ceramic cups and glassware instead of toxic, single use plastic trash.
And stop lying to customers about plastic ♻️

Isn't it ironic a company like Starbucks chose a twin-tailed mermaid for its logo & now serves customers food & beverage in plastic polluting our oceans? Then crafts ♻️lies by promoting plastic♻️in its stores! BILLIONS of cups, lids, plugs; ditch the plastic or drop the nautical logo!

I know we want to recycle stuff, but ♻️ plastic is a myth because♻️plastic is toxic, resource intensive & polluting. And economics - new plastic is CHEAP! Instead of asking "is this recyclable", ask "how do we🛑companies from poisoning us & our ecosystems with plastic"? Demand facts & transparency!

This is what Starbucks is capable of using in markets with plastic ordinances. While the ring on the lid is polystyrene, the rest of the cup is paper w/ thin plastic-type lining to prevent leakage. Starbucks must change out plastic globally🛑 polluting & lying to customers! @sbworkersunited.org FYI

Again, not a surprise because PP5 plastic cups are not recycled and Starbucks knows this. They serve more than 2 billion cold drinks in plastic cups and dome lids every year. Plus their coffee business and food packaged in plastic trays (also not recyclable). 😫

Of the trackers with a signal, 89% went to landfill. The rest went to sorting facilities and, given there is only one small factory in Alabama that takes cups, it's highly unlikely any will ever be recycled.

Given the enormous scale of Starbucks, we contacted CBS NY with the story. CBS dropped cups with trackers into the custom labeled Starbucks recycling bins in 18 cities across the county!

Starbucks, with more than 50% market share in the US, is deceiving customers. The company has created custom ♻️ bins indicating that the plastic cups and lids Starbucks serves their beverages in are ♻️.
This is factually false.
