All eyes must now turn to the remaining sessions of the GGE LAWS, where the current mandate will conclude in 2026 in advance of the #CCWUN Seventh Review Conference.

t’s disappointing that this resolution fails to reflect the clear will of the majority: to urgently begin negotiations on a legally binding treaty on autonomous weapons. Instead, it takes a modest approach that focuses on the current GGE LAWS mandate. #StopKillerRobots

The resolution

➡️makes reference to the UN Secretary-General’s calls to begin negotiations on a legally binding instrument
➡️references the SecGen’s comments that work on #AWS in #CCWUN is going “in the right direction”

Resolution L.41 draws attention to the serious challenges and concerns that new and emerging technological applications in the military domain, including those related to #AI and #AutonomousWeapons raise from humanitarian, legal, security, technological and ethical perspectives.
