Well, it was 26 years of co-founding and leading a brewery for me, and I can tell you without any doubt that what I know about beer is far less than what I don’t know! Always gotta watch out for that Dunning-Krueger effect.

That has always been a bit of an intellectually lazy comment. I realize you just heard someone else make the comment, and you’re repeating it. It takes skill to make a good beer, no matter the style. There is no ‘hiding.’ It’s quite easy to discern a well made IPA from one that’s not.
