Jesus even spoke against the Pharisees for "tithing mint and cumin" but "forgetting the weightier matters of the Torah". Also, the tithe - was it some thing you gave that disappeared somewhere behind a door in a tray and then into a bank account? No! All benefitted from the tithe.

Very true. The theologies humans tend to create is problematic. Arguably, there are some who know too little about (or discount entirely) the Old Testament and only the New. You can't take bits and pieces of something and present them alongside your own rules derived from fragments.

I can't know what's in a man's heart - but I will say there are many hypocrites using things from the Bible out of context alongside their political pitch for gain. Just like the Pharisees of old.

Also Charlie didn't understand the point of those Scriptures. When Jesus came he wasn't stoning people. He actually stood with a sinner against the hypocrites who wished to stone her. Most of these so-called "Christian" nationalists quote the Bible out of context with zero understanding.

The recent NYT piece gives (somewhat) false hope. It’s nice and all, but hope clouds the observation of reality. The administration has already gamed all of this out. Whatever strategy exists via a shutdown won’t matter unless it’s borderline insane.
