In the intro of the Navy Record's Society first volume - the State Papers of relating to the Spanish Armada - is this wonderful description of some of the difficulties with the original documents.

I feel this summary must have been very satisfying to write after much toil.

Well, this all appears to be working. Babylon 5 is on the menu.

This was taken at the same time, and I think remains one of the best photographs I have ever taken.

Two pictures from a 2005 trip to see @rmfifthcircuit.bsky.social . We went to Gettysburg, having first stuffed ourselves and then getting lost with a detour through Mannheim. Still a marvellous day. Twenty years ago this October.

And next month I become a father to a teenager. Tempus Fugit!

I haven't had the chance to check some of these out yet, but I just have to approve of the concept.

And done. And look - it appears in the process I have created about a shelf's worth of space!

Something I am sure I can fill up in due course :) Actually I do want to complete Wheel of Time ....

My nerdy Xmas presents

First D&D I have owned in 3+ decades. Probably overly optimistic as to actually playing, but then imagination is its own reward

This weekend I want to finally sort out these shelves. Whether I will or not depends on some outside factors, but I will be so happy if I manage it.

Glædelig Jul

I wish you all the very best and hope everyone can find something to celebrate, and someone or persons to celebrate with, regardless of what you might be celebrating. If nothing else, hopefully just the joy of a friend.

Just finished on Kindle French Warships in the Age of Steam 1859-1914 by Stephen S Roberts.

Lots of lovely nerdy engineering detail, a lot of which I admit went over my head but did not lessen my learning or fascination. This book really helps explain why the French did their thing.

Lovely little mention here in today's argument for Great Lakes v Raiders Realty about last week's grammatical fun and games in Pulsifer.
