Joe Okimoto was 3 years old when his family was forced into an internment camp. Today feels eerily reminiscent of his family’s experience, he said.
“It’s very upsetting… this is America. What’s happening is unAmerican.”

Steven Okamoto, 83, was 5 weeks old when he and his parents were forced to go to the Tanforan Assembly Center at a racetrack in San Bruno.
She told them they would be living in the stables and not to worry, that the stables were clean.
His mother never forgot the smell of the manure there.
