The overall story is not original. It adds very little to the discussion of the topic. It is a positive story for the genre, which is a plus. Part 2 and 3 were the most interesting, adding some depth. Overall, a simple story with likable characters and a happy ending.

The Mocking Tower by Daniel Abraham

This was okay. It was saved by the last scene.

"I am a Handsome Man, " Said Apollo Crow by Kate Elliot

The man character stays true to form. He only does what is best for him. It is unusual.

Making Frankenbatting can be so soothing. I can pretend I am actually cleaning my sewing room by making it.

Each chapter is in the first-person POV, Kathleen/Kit, Rebekah, Landon. They are all around 17 years of age.
Rebekah's father is German, and they have just moved from Quebec to Ontario. This is causing some tension in the town.

We have a cat who likes to dip his toes into our cups. I am constantly looking for anything to cover it with to keep him out. Not always successfully. 😂

Chapter 20 or about 60%
It is about different forms of abuse. The abused will do anything for the abuser, even go to Hell for them. Outsiders will not help even when asked for it, abandoning the abused or perpetuating it.
Escapism this is not.

I powered through, and the story is starting to make sense. I had to read a summary first.

I listened to the first book on audio. This copy is an ebook. I am not sure about the spelling of the names. This is making it hard to understand. I was going to borrow the Witch King ebook, but that list is weeks long. Power through or go on a long list? Ideas?

I just finished the book. I have mixed feelings about it. The ending was satisfying, but the delivery was so dry and matter of fact. I am not sure if that was supposed to be a reflection of the Obin, who were not the storytellers. I am going tonsit with this for a bit. 💙📚 🧵

Chapter 14
The chalk seque and now the tale of Orpheus reference. I am enjoying this.
BTW Hades Town, the musical, is a fun adaptation of Orpheus' story.

Book Three, Chapter 20.
This is very dry. Gretchen sounds like a bored university professor presenting a lecture. I like the plot.
It does make me yearn to read a Tanya Huff novel.

As a Canadian who has had our history mined by the USA for movies, I agree.
It is these little tidbits that make his books good. Little bits of humour everyone can identify with.
