I had the pleasure of seeing him drive a Brabham in the summer. Was chatting to us watchers in the paddock and came across as a really nice chap.

It was a joy to recently come across the Tyrrell 008 at Goodwood, in which Patrick won his first Grant Prix at Monaco in 1978. It was also my first visit to a race outside the UK as a 14 year old.

You are indeed a lucky man. What a lunch that must have been.
A driver with one of the most recognisable helmet designs ever. Simple but effective, not changing race by race, but a career long design like most of his contemporaries.

Always a soft spot for Depallier as he won the first GP I ever went abroad to see with my late dad. Delighted to see his Tyrrell 008 from that day at Goodwood last week.
As for Brands Hatch 1980, I’ll never forget the Harrier jump jet blowing everyone away….literally!

One of the most gorgeous F1 cars ever in my opinion. May I add this picture that I took yesterday of a JS11/15 in action?

Almost the same picture at the entrance, but I was up in The Gods for the show…and what a show. It’s great if you’ve got more chances to see The Boss before the years end.

I found Erich Honeckers Volvo 😀

Goodness Matt, you make me feel old.
My first European GP. My late father and I posing as walking cigarette packets after the race (neither of us ever smoked), and an original poster I found some years later.
I also remember who was on pole that day!

School friends had posters of footballers on their wall. I had one of James Hunt.
Spain ‘76…so started all the drama.
Pictured is my pride and joy from my 1/18th collection (or dust traps as the wife calls them).

I have to be honest, I’m an iconic helmet fan too.

Obviously in the days following they reviewed the Oval Office dress code 😡

Are the stewards going to sit the drivers on ‘the comfy chair’?

Three of my boyhood heros. I still get goosebumps when I see Emmo in one of his cars.

A fantastic achievement and I doubt it will ever be repeated. Those mid-90’s Indycars were machines of beauty and power in my opinion.

That was fun…

Thoroughly enjoyed the podcast (as ever). Those two could have reached the current crop a thing or two about sportsmanship!
I managed to listen to it on the train this morning, then relaxed in an appropriate pub before the journey home.
