I appreciated there was a decent amount of Nintendo weirdness (e.g. Yoshi game, Bonanza Rogue-like, Virtua Boy). Even Pokopia though it has clear inspirations, was an unexpected addition.

I wonder how these smaller projects fit into Nintendo's schedule. Are they projects that get made at certain times (on ramp up/down between bigger projects)?

That sounded more snobbish than intended. 😬 I had a friend that introduced me to a lot of old arcade games from that period and I was surprised to see how many clearly had their roots in those games.

If you look back at the games released then, it kind of feels like that's what the whole industry did for a few years. Just like how indie-games are currently in a decade (or more) long rogue-like jam.

New to PICO-8 and I randomly bumped into your game. Love the style and sense of exploration. Also a great cycle of voyages out to find resources and then upgrade. I don't know if there is a next "wrinkle" in the gameplay but by the time I was breaking down the skulls I was looking for it. Great job!

A shame. The early SteamWorld games (particularly Heist) were so good. Seems like their last few games have really struggled to match that magic.

Out of curiosity, have you ever messed with playingcards.io? It doesn’t do any rules enforcement but it handles multiplayer and gives you the pieces to prototype essentially any boardgame.
