I sat on this one for way too long. And I probably got into too much detail, sorry 🙇 The question was about the designs of the boys armor.

A reply to a question from strawpage about the designs of my knight OCs armor. There are pics from the ref sheets of their armor with details highlighted, as well as pics of Douglas' old armor, a pic of real life armor that inspired Willows armor, and both their coat of arms. The text reads: Both their armor reflects part of their backstory and heritage. Douglas' shape language is a bit sharper and less traditional. it used to be softer but it was really hard to draw in perspective so I made a ton of changes from his first design. His armor is inspired by the turbulent oceans around his home country, and the beasts living in them. So it'S wavy shapes, teeth and eyes, which is also on his coat of arms. His armor is a dark, oil slick color, like the deep ocean, the white fur collar imitating the foam of the breaking waves. His armor in general is made to make him appear even broader and more menacing. Willows armors base shape is inspired by a set of field armor of archduke maximilian i. I simplified parts of it just because I knew I wanted to draw comics with them and the details themselves are already a lot to redraw. similar to douglas' armor willows detailing and filigree is inspired by his home country, the leaves and flowers for the luscious greenery and the antlers and teeth for the kind of beastly stag on his coat of arms. I like how his armor makes him appear smaller and slimmer than he actually is. Especially next to Douglas. Both their armors have details that can change depending on the circumstances, their tournament fit can have more parts added, for example Willows helmet can have a full set of stag antlers for special occasions. (this is also an out when minimal details change between drawings, armor Is always subject to change bcs moving parts can break.)
