I'm a snarky school nurse. Music, film, nature, and family.

This is just PEPFAR-related deaths from cutting USAID. It doesn't count other deaths (e.g., food aid, other medicines, etc.). The numbers are staggering, and we're only 5 months in.

Wondering if China tariffs hold, will landlines make a comeback? ;) Meanwhile, prediction for apparel shopping: second hand stores will be a thing.

Judging by its mix of dark and light tail feathers, this must be a young eagle (1-2 years?). Taken at the southern tip of Whidbey Island.

Enjoying a tropical sunrise while helping my Mom with her condo and car in Kauai this week. I hope this brings a little positivity to your day, in the midst of all the bad headlines.

Adrian Brody's film The Brutalist was long, with an intermission even, but I'm glad they kept its length, to express what it needs to. Truly a film for these days, with messaging about immigration and $ inequities, tho set in the 40s-80s. (FYI, Adult-rated for drug use, sex, and rape).

This likely stray is so pretty. It was confused by the ham I threw out the window towards it.

There's already so much suffering in our world. I cannot fathom that the U.S. has intentionally brought so much more on what will be a massive scale. This article interviews a civil servant on the ground and what it's been like for their life-saving work to be cut off and more. Important article.
‘Americans Can and Will Die from This’: USAID Worker Details Dangers, Chaos
The sudden scapegoating of the once-bipartisan agency has left front-line workers in foreign countries stunned and abandoned, without even a contact in Washington.

During the first Trump presidency, I learned way more about our govt workings and civics than I ever did, due to all the broken norms, laws, and subsequent lawsuits. I feel like after the next 4 years, I'll be eligible for an honorary degree in political science.

My daughter came home with a nose-bridge piercing. I told her she is the perverbial uneven ground upon which we find ourselves heightening our awareness of the need to find our balance, thereby strengthening the neglected, uncomfortable areas of our minds that we try to avoid. Such confidence!

I was reading about existentialism and Sartre. I think I'm too stressed or indecisive to be a good existentialist. Just tell me when's dinner.
