I think Limited Resources doing a sunset podcast for Spider-Man Limited a WEEK after the release date is in line with this thinking.
This was all a roundabout way of saying focus on and support sets you like, ignore those you don't.

We no longer get Lorwyn caliber sets every release, this is well known.
Look at this generational run from '07 to 2012. Unfortunately, it's not coming back.
As competitive players, we cannot ignore Spider-Man, but that doesn't mean we have to harp on it.

As a kid playing the game, I didn't need to know who Jace was or why he was there. I just knew that when the card was in play, he was incredible. As a result, he became synonymous with Magic (more so for the mind sculptor, but you get the point).

Obviously, Lorwyn introduced Planeswalkers for the first time, and with them a new trajectory in Magic's identity. As someone new to the game in the years following the block, I think these cards added to the heights Magic could reach in terms of narrative appeal.

When I first started playing, Lorwyn block cards were still in circulation amongst friends, and they'd commonly show up at the kitchen table and their presence added depth to Magic's identity and mystery as a new player. The artistic tone, the unique mechanics, Lorwyn IS Magic.
