I’m glad you enjoyed it!

You’re off to a great start, welcome to the game

I mean this for general learning, since I realise the context for this post was coding where it’s almost redundant because of how code tends to change.

Yeah, it’s unfortunate that I relied on it as heavily as I did during uni. It was just what everyone was doing and in the mid-2010s spaced repetition was the big hype.

Generally memorisation has narrow use and should be used very sparingly for its high cost/benefit ratio.

It does take real strength to look on the positives, it’s a practice that I’ve been working on.

Although there’s also something to be said about being content even when there’s no good news and to be working to be the change you want to see in the world.

A lot of the anxiety surrounding Bayesian stats is the loss of objectivity.

But often we haven't discussed on what "objectivity" would look like, when we don't then how can we expect our analysis to be convincing?

I.e. Your consciousness and representation of the world fills in the gaps left by a system that doesn’t have this. (And biases will leak in as a result.)

I think this is an important question beyond just research. An important thing is that LLMs are word predictors and so isn’t a robust “way of knowing” and understanding both of these is key to using it well.

Everything must be verified, driven by and passed through you, this maximises benefit.

Now here’s a union I can support 👊 (All unions are good unions, but still.)

I’m not sure the evidence is out there and even if it did what would it change in your life?

Regardless of the answer, you’re here. Me too.

You’re not going to find this answer through philosophy of science though. There are only more questions for you and not many answers.
