Word of the week: palimpsest.
A phd student, a countdown, and a call for everybody to come together to push it off course?

Is the violence done to my body by white men one of the justified violences? Are those white men examples of the good white men, allies whose debt is paid not in blood but in semen, an eternal bond of complicity against conservative feminist values that represents the corrupt power of the state?
January 25, 2026 at 5:15 AM
Anyway. Am I, specifically, sharing information about the defence against unjust power?
January 25, 2026 at 5:07 AM
I just assumed that poem was posted by a white man for whom the greatest sacrifice of revolution was ticking something off his sexual bucket list.

The person above arguing that some violence is justified with the other hand fights to prevent violence to themselves. They only volunteer other people. That's the nature of what Atwood calls the upside down v of literature, the distance between the speaker and the listener, mefiated by a book.
January 25, 2026 at 4:55 AM
But that's not the story.
January 25, 2026 at 4:48 AM
And I keep returning to the idea that if some violence is justified, a Derridean incomprehensibly immense amount of violence is justified. Literally no amount of violence cannot be justified if some violence can be justified.
January 25, 2026 at 4:47 AM
Cos one story, that documenting something doesn't justify violence, means I profit from trump. And the other story, that sometimes violence is justified to protect information, means you profit from trump. And either way trump wins and the divisions between us are deepened.

Communications as an epistemic border protecting power, is what I keep returning to, the same sign of violence addressing different audiences to mobilise those audiences strategically in its own defense.
January 25, 2026 at 4:29 AM
What is the nature of that alliance beyond the fact that violence is sometimes justifiable? What are its component parts?
January 25, 2026 at 4:15 AM
Violence is syllepsistic if i'm using that correctly. It states explicitly that violence is justified by using violence, to support the conversation that violence is unjustified by eliciting that reaction, as part of a statement that some violence is justified. A statement that reveals an alliance.
January 25, 2026 at 4:14 AM
Meanwhile there is a narrative in the grammar of proximity that describes the people's poetry in resistance to power in which the violence is a sign.
January 25, 2026 at 4:14 AM
And some white male power contributes to that defence against white male power, yes?
January 25, 2026 at 4:04 AM
It resolves through allyship and goals - it's wrong to kill people sharing information about white male power, but it might be justified to commit violence against people defending white male power by sharing information about that defence, yes?
January 25, 2026 at 4:04 AM
Before and after people have taken positions in that conversation that they are prepared to defend violently.
January 25, 2026 at 3:52 AM
He was just documenting them, and they used violence to provoke a conversation about how documenting something does not justify violence. This enters into the hypertext, in an aggressively reductive way, about the complexities of information sharing.
January 25, 2026 at 3:52 AM
The epistemic border around power is complexity - comprehension, networks, affect, moral clarity. Before or after that power is good and used for good.
January 25, 2026 at 3:42 AM
I had a fit like this when I tried to talk about Bhabha's theory of mimicry to describe a colonial genre reappropriated for decolonial ends. My brain twisted on barbed wire.
January 25, 2026 at 3:39 AM
Form and content. I have always understood taking an unpopular position, especially one that involves defending myself against structural violence, as being in a minority.
January 25, 2026 at 3:19 AM
It is wrong but you deserve it. You don't deserve it but it is right. It is not happening to you it is happening to me. It is not happening to me it is happening to you.
January 25, 2026 at 3:11 AM
It must be accepted and it must be condemned.
January 25, 2026 at 3:09 AM
Power is neutral I suppose. The complicity, the contamination, the dispersal of culpability across thousands, millions of bodies that sleep in their beds at night and are not shot. The inward turn, seeing power flow into you and through you to others, that can't be stemmed or redirected or accepted.
January 25, 2026 at 3:08 AM
In which case, America should accept it deserves to lie down and die. But it won't.
January 25, 2026 at 2:51 AM
De certeau argues that the masses appropriate the disseminated signs of the elite, turning them to their ends. But here a violence is used to denounce itself as support for a violence that denounces violence. So i guess lying.
January 25, 2026 at 2:49 AM
You're lying and explicitly allied, or there is a dominant force exerting a synchronising pressure on your words to align you with actions you oppose.
