Try the Leatherman Skeletool for $75, which I always carry (except airport). I use the screwdriver and pliers on a regular basis for household chores, way more than I use the blade.

I should add that I do *like* the Signal and have started carrying and using it daily. I don't really notice the difference in weight in my pocket, but it's definitely heavier in the hand and I haven't used any Signal features that the Skeletool lacks. So I may revert to Skeletool for EDC!

Besides throwing these away at TSA checkpoints, don't you believe that (for the most part), you get what you pay for? Leatherman knives come with a 25 year warranty, which the knockoffs don't.

Which Leatherman? I know the fancy graphics aren't available on all models, but not clear which this is. My EDC is their super-light-but very useful Skeletool CX, which covers 90% of my needs. I just picked up their Signal, which is much heavier, has even-more useful toys (ferro rod, saw, whistle).
