Mnemonic Trains — Nick Piombino & Laura Kerr
Published by Penteract Press
Only six copies left.

This collaboration changed the course of my practice. Working with Nick was a true highlight—his brilliance on the page and in conversation shaped this book in ways I’ll always value.

From my Everlasting Rendering Garden

Once,
gladiolus climbed—
scaled the fence,
cell by cell,
rung by rung—
ascending past the reach
of any sun,
and still
not one
could come undone.

A book that obliterates the conventional notion of the novel. Bending and transmogrifying language into a shape all its own.

This void isn’t darkness applied.
It’s surface interrupting itself—
a poem relinquishing its “wallness.”

I become the wall.
Not absence, but a sharpening:
the material denies me any direction
except itself.

I want that.

I never imagined poetry would become my way into AI, yet it’s the most exact medium for exposing how these systems move.
I wrote my first play with an AI voice in the 1970s, and now—nearly ten years into this forensic work—the investigation only widens.
HAL opened the door.

For current AI poetry, we should be asking:

What does this language do that other poetic methods cannot—or does it simply repackage familiar moves?

Is limitless generation the same as poetic vitality, or only the illusion of abundance?

To talk about paintings is not only difficult but perhaps pointless too. You can only express in words what words are capable of expressing-- what language can communicate. Painting has nothing to do with that.

The current art market has perfected its performance of itself.
Artists must not only make the work, but become its ongoing explanation:
the panelist, the sponsored traveler, the social proof.
We now circulate meanings as much as objects.
