OTD in 1424 James I and his wife, Joan Beaumont entered into Edinburgh on Palm Sunday. James' return to Scotland after his long years of exile could be incorporated into the religious celebration taking place that day.

OTD in history James VI was proclaimed King of England following the death of Elizabeth I.
His claim to the throne of England was through his great grandmother, Margaret Tudor ( Henry VIII's sister) who married James IV.

#otd 10 February 1567, Kirk o’ Field house in Edinburgh was destroyed by an explosion. The partially clothed bodies of Lord Darnley, the second husband of Mary, Queen of Scots, and his servant, William Taylor were found in a nearby orchard, apparently strangled but unharmed by the explosion.

#OTD 8 February 1587, Mary Queen of Scots was beheaded at Fotheringhay Castle; a scaffold had been erected in the Great Hall, with witnesses including George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury who had been her custodian for 16 years (1569-1585).

#QueenAnne born on this day 6 February 1665 and died August 1714. She was Queen of England, Scotland, and Ireland from 8 March 1702, and Queen of Great Britain and Ireland following the ratification of the Acts of Union 1707.
Queen Anne was the last #stuart monarch to sit on the throne.

#otd in 1649, Charles II became King of Scotland and Ireland after his father, Charles I was executed.
On 5th February 1649 the Scots parliament proclaimed him king.

There is a 13th century effigy in the Priory which depicts Walter Stewart, earl of Mentieth and his wife.
In 1547 Mary, Queen of Scots, aged four, hidden here for a few weeks following the defeat of the Scots at the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh.

Advent calendar day 15 - Margaret Tudor, queen consort of James IV. After his death at Flodden in 1513, she married Archibald Douglas, 6th Earl of Angus in 1514. Following her divorce from Angus in 1527, Margaret married her third husband, Henry Stewart, 1st Lord Methven.
