Yes, I was also on there from close to the get-go and, while there were always issues, it was a more vibrant, fun and less toxic place.

Yeah, you'd have thought Evolution or Butterfly would have been better choices. As you say, a band in transition. I must admit to having a soft spot for 'Stop Stop Stop' though. Nostalgia! Bus Stop too, although that's not on this album.

I admire your optimism, both in terms of the pace of climate breakdown, and the pace of our progress on this list.

402) Gold – a comprehensive compilation of Buddy Holly songs, spanning the entirety of his tragically short yet nonetheless prolific career. What is there to say really? A truly innovative pioneer of rock and roll. 'Not Fade Away' is a personal favourite.

401) For Certain Because by the Hollies. Folk rock with a touch of psychedelia. My late dad liked the Hollies, so I know some of their music, but I found this LP underwhelming. The arrangements, production and musicianship are absolutely fine but melodies just don't grab me.

I led a departmental seminar back in 2006 and the title of my presentation was almost identical to your post. Nothing has changed since then.

400) We reach our fourth century with a slice of avant-garde jazz – Conference of the Birds by the Dave Holland Quartet. I found some of the more frantic tracks a bit much but the title track and ‘Now Here’ are nicely constructed and the general musicianship is beyond question.

I'll check out the doc, cheers. Yeah, she had a very difficult life in many ways but still managed to make an indelible mark. Weird choice of compilation, as you say. Must have had a personal impact on one of the compilers, but that doesn't necessarily equate to a good choice for listeners.
