The weather is grim. It's cold and grey and not going to get any better. The only possible cure for the gloom is calories. Come to Horsley Village Hall from 2 to 4pm and stuff your faces. (Ethel sends her apologies, there's no Corned Beef Pie).

Like an episode of Last of the Summer Wine (or Casualty), and with a combined age of nearly two hundred years, the lads are sorting out the storm damaged gutter next door.

Excellent advice from Constance Markovitz at The People's History Museum in Manchester. 'Dress suitably in short skirts and strong boots. Leave your jewels in the bank and buy a revolver'.

My new car can see my phone! Some years ago, Ruby made me a playlist of many of my favourite tracks. She called it 'Prozac Bangers'. Somehow, Spotify has taken that list and now it plays me, without asking, loads of lovely music. This bit of the modern world is marvellous.

Phoar! What a great sight to come home to. A lovely pile of neatly stacked logs. I cannily nicked off to work this morning, leaving Tony and son in law Adam to do the hard graft.

I bought a new car. It has a ton of bells whistles. This morning, as I made my way cautiously through the flooded lanes, a new flashing icon appeared on the dashboard. A picture of a steaming cup of tea. I googled and found out the car thinks I'm tired and I need to take a break. I feel very seen.

Just back from doing the wettest, windiest burial at Belsay. Top marks to all the staff and to Sam the pony too. It really was a wild one. Bathtime.

The high winds have knacked our Pampass Grass, so I've brought it indoors to form a feathery bower for the holy family who live in our fireplace.

The beautiful blue sky over the wall at the front of our house today. It seems appropriate to use it to mark my first post here.
