Recently finished Vertigo, Harald Jähner's superb book on Weimar Germany. Highly recommended. Not only is it well written and hugely informative, but it is also worryingly relevant to today. #booksky #histbookchat

Next book on my to-read pile (after I've finished the excellent "The Golden Road" by @willdalrymple.bsky.social) is "How to Hide an Empire" by Daniel Immewahr. Trump's threats to seize the Panama Canal make it all the more relevant.

The entrepreneur Elon Musk, who is increasingly openly expressing his sympathies for right-wing parties, was probably one of his role models: "If you listen to someone like Tommy Robinson or even Elon Musk, and even if you're ignorant of the process of Islamization, you'll think they're conspiracy theorists," A. said in an interview. "But I can say from experience that anything Robinson says, what Musk says, what Alex Jones says, or anyone who is labeled a radical or a right-wing extremist by mainstream media — they're telling the truth." Taleb A. said in the interview that he was not a right-winger and described himself as a leftist.
