Here's another photo of him. He features in my next book on the alleged disappearance of the 1/5th Battalion Norfolk Regiment at Kuchuk Anafarta Ova on 12 August 1915.

That's really interesting. I've commented on the post. I'll look at the men but I'd say that most of them are probably POWs after Kut.

That's not correct. It was 97 men from the 2nd Battalion Royal Norfolks & the 1st Battalion Royal Scots Regiment along with a mixture of other units and this website is excellent for telling the story ...

Not necessarily refurbished, but they were augmented by the more recognisable WW2 variants we see today to become a stop-line & nodal point around North Walsham. So, you now see both types along the line which gives you a great picture as to why both were set up in WW1 & WW2.

I should have checked my records first. The CWGC should have him down as 7th Battalion. It probably doesn't help that his SE has him as 9th Bn. He was reported missing after the failed attack on Bayonet Trench & Luisenhof Farm near Gueudecourt on 12 October 1916

Interesting. He's not mentioned in the war diary.

We used to be able to get these in one of our local supermarkets but now we can only get them online. I love them & I'm also rather partial to a flapjack now & then 😁

He's devoted an entire chapter where he apologises for all of his misdemeanours in relation to duff history 😉

He was killed in action working on reserve lines near Hersin and had only been in France for a very short while before he died.
