Blind from birth, I do what I can to help make the web an accessible place for all. Like everyone else, I'm just living my life, trying to make it the best life it can be.
Particularly grateful this Thanksgiving

I'm writing this on the first Thanksgiving in 29 years that I am not celebrating with my wife, Jenn. For those who are unaware, Jenn experienced what medical folks refer to as a "cardiac event" on 11/14 and has not yet regained consciousness. My intention…

I'm writing this on the first Thanksgiving in 29 years that I am not celebrating with my wife, Jenn. For those who are unaware, Jenn experienced what medical folks refer to as a "cardiac event" on 11/14 and has not yet regained consciousness. My intention was to be with her at the hospital today, but limited shuttle service and increased rideshare pricing makes that impractical.

I've spent way too much time at the hospital recently as my wife has been dealing with cardiac issues. One neat thing about this particular hospital though, is that they have someone who plays live piano music. Whether I'm nervous, scared, or just waiting, the live music never fails to bring me a little bit of joy. And so I thought I might record some of that music and share what I hope is at least a little joy with all of you. Apologies that this recording isn't the best, but it's the best I could do from my phone.

Recently, I discovered the Roland CS-10EM, a binaural headset that can be used with a variety of recorders. I thought I'd give this a try because my previous binaural solution was reliant on equipment that is no longer being made. I received the CS-10EM just the other day, but, until yesterday, hadn't really had the opportunity to test it. Last night though, while out having pizza with a friend, I realized that I had the perfect opportunity.

The 2025 Apple Event and my attempt to live blog from an accessibility perspective
In just a few minutes, the 2025 live Apple Event will begin. Will we see new iPhones? A new watch? other new Apple things? Generally, this is where all the shiny new Apple stuff is announced -- at least most of it. I'm going to be watching it live and, as an experiment, am going to try and live blog my thoughts and observations as replies to this thread.

Sad to see Blogging platform Typepad is shutting down after 22 years, giving customers about a month to migrate away
Over the weekend, I saw the following referenced in an Email newsletter: We have made the difficult decision to discontinue Typepad, effective September 30, 2025.  What Does This Mean for You?  After September 30, 2025, access to Typepad – including account management, blogs, and all associated content – will no longer be available. Your account and all related services will be permanently deactivated.

OK, sorry for yet another quick message, but I noticed after sending my last one that replies sent via Email were not showing up as public replies on the post. I think I have fixed this, but can't tell for sure without yet another test, so here we are. If this works, and if you get this via Email, you should be able to reply and have your comment appear publicly on the post.

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged over here on WordPress, in part because I found that the inability to customize certain things on my then WordPress.com plan was really frustrating.  They’ve recently changed things though, and so I thought I would check out those changes, blow the cobwebs off this thing, and see if it still works.  So, let’s hit post and see what happens. 🙂
