Not had the chance to do much photography recently but this storm rolled over so I could just stand in the garden!

Common bird's-foot-trefoil (Lotus corniculatus)
These were found on the verge between a pavement/cycle path and bypass. There were 1000s along a 2 km stretch
An important food source for the caterpillars of the Common Blue. Also know as Granny's toenails! 😱

Captured at the start of May, this Common cotton-grass (Eriophorum angustifolium) appeared stunning in the soft light of dawn. It often proves challenging to convey the beauty one observes, but I hope I've succeeded in capturing its essence.

Wild Garlic, scientifically known as Allium ursinum, is a plant indicative of ancient woodlands. The Latin term "ursinum" highlights the fact that brown bears were fond of consuming its bulb. This preference also led to its common names, bear’s leek and bear garlic.

Another moth (and possibly the same species as my previous shot) warming itself in the early morning sun.

Found in April, I have no idea what Moth this is. Even looking through the Concise Guide to Moths of GB and Ireland I still have no idea! Great book though with super illustrations by Richard Lewington. Any lepidopterists or Moth masters point me in the right direction?

The Cuckoo Flower, Cheshires county flower, also known as milkmaid. The plant flowers around the time the cuckoo starts to call. Alas on my local patch I've not heard a Cuckoo call for a long time

In Britain Rosebay Willowherb was considered a rare species in the 18th century but the plant's rise from local rarity to widespread abundance seems to have occurred at the same time as the expansion of the railway network and the associated soil disturbance

I already knew that the name Fireweed came from the fact that it would sprout from burnt ground, but the plant became locally known as 'bombweed' due to its rapid colonization of bomb craters in the Second World War

I always like to add a few words with the photo and while looking up Umbellifers I found out that it comes from the Latin Umbella (parasol) and -fer (bearing) through to French and then English. I didn't know that!

Here's another gem from the collection, and yet another member of the Umbellifer family. I must confess, I'm quite fond of photographing this group of plants, as they provide numerous opportunities for diverse shots.

A dandelion's seed head appears downy and soft in the morning light, resembling a fluffy cloud. (The skies always had little fluffy clouds in them)

The seed heads resemble "spacecraft": They have minute seeds connected to feathery parachutes, allowing them to soar on the breeze and journey far from the parent plant.

The term "dandelion" is derived from the French phrase "dent de lion," which translates to "lion's tooth," referring to the resemblance of its leaves to a lion's teeth. Belle tête de graine
