My dad took me to the cinema to see this when on holiday in Bridlington '87*. It's fair to say he never did get on with me from that point onwards!

A few years ago - pre all the trans stuff - my friend replied to him on twitter, admiring his work, but not keen on Count Arthur Strong.
GL was really abusive, just couldn't accept any criticism, despite it coming with genuine admiration.
Very thin-skinned, even then.
