Here's my best guess. They're talking about ethanol85 gas. I currently live near Mount Pleasant, Iowa. I pay about $3 a gallon for the cheapest "normal" gas. This subsidized ethanol version is now $2.15. I used it once, and it nearly wrecked my new car. My mechanic told me to never use it again.

MALIBU CANYON is a literary thriller with a very LA vibe. One of the most important scenes in the novel is set at Moonshadows restaurant on PCH, which was destroyed by the fires a few days ago. The restaurant was one of my favorites.

If you haven't seen the documentary about Wham! then you need to look for it. George Michael was unique, and the story of his song "Last Christmas" is the stuff of Hollywood. Here's a recap about his success on the Billboard charts:

And the reason I was going out was to feed my demanding cats Huey and Alonso, who temporarily live across town. Luckily, the power didn't go out at my place or theirs. But it did go out throughout town.
