I was compelled to drop a chapter in my 1999 PhD thesis because it was a mess. Twenty-six years, and much research and thinking, later -- a transformed version will be part of the Gender and Deindustrialization volume edited by Jackie Clarke and Piyusha Chatterjee! @deindustrialpol.bsky.social

An analysis of the Tory platform on higher ed should also include their 'right to work' section where they seek to undermine student unions (as well as trade unions).

One can also see how right wing populism spikes with working-class voters (educational level is a good indicator) in the recent German election.

Today's EKOS rolling poll in Canada looks a lot like the US, Germany, France, etc. Right-wing populism is taking hold among working-class voters. Also a big gender split, with men likewise opting for the Tories.

I spent some time last month at Unifor's HQ delving into their action centre model of worker adjustment. This research was flagged as a priority by Unifor's Angelo DiCaro (pictured here) as part of our @deindustrialpol.bsky.social project.

Not sure why Canada is still staggering its first tranche of retaliatory tariffs (21 days later). We need to make them to feel the same pain sooner rather than later. Besides, the US already seems intent on hitting Canada with ADDITIONAL 'reciprocal' tariffs due to our supply management system.
