I'm starting composition lessons soon. The challenge of being unschooled is that my pieces are less sophisticated than I would like. With lessons, I hope I can create good pieces that are enjoyable and playable. My compositions are posted at vimeo.com/stevenhgordon

I uploaded a recent composition to MuseScore for solo alto recorder or flute called Smokedrift. It was originally created for piano, updated on Native American flute and finally completed on a Baroque-style alto recorder.

I call St. Bernard Abbey my home away from home. It’s quiet, beautiful and a space where you find certainty and serendipity among the trees, old buildings, statuary, icons, and the monks who’ll pass by usually saying nothing more than a silent nod of their head.

First United Methodist Church in Downtown Huntsville, Alabama. The downtown is packed with old buildings. I recognize their variety though I don't know anything about historical architecture. Regardless, many interesting things for a camera lens to consider.

Swan Creek near Athens, #Alabama usually has low water levels. With their flat rocks, you can get out to the middle of the water to find #photography spots.

Succulents...what variety of photogenic opportunities one can find with these kinds of plants.

Late winter vibe at Piney Creek, in northern Alabama. Post-processing with several iPhone filters was done to bring out the starkness in the air that day.

Is someone throwing BRICS at us? How is the U.S. handling the self-induced Trade War? Are we due to suffer through a recession soon?

Hiking around Ft. Baker at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge, vegetation on the hillsides is exposed to wind, cold, rain, mists and so much more. Anything growing there must be very hardy and a miracle of nature.

Map in progress for a guest ranch near Kettle Falls, Washington using raster brushes in Affinity Designer for the ground cover and trees. I created the trees as brushes from AI-generated images of pine trees. I love these kinds of projects.

This is First United Methodist Church in Downtown #Huntsville, #Alabama. Across the street is a parking lot, a rain catcher that offers a couple big puddles for anyone with a #photography habit.

Fort Baker, protecting the north entrance to San Francisco Bay, leaves these abandoned barracks as a sign of the austerity of service once active here.

Sorta, kinda Downtown Madison. The sign has changed and some of the old stores repurposed. But quaint and quiet until the Norfolk Southern splits the heavens with its horn and rolling thunder. Drop by if you’re ever up in North Alabama.

Clouds and condos on the late, great Gulf of Mexico. Close of day at the beach always feels like a bookend.

Woods predominate the landscape in northern Alabama. Fortunately, there are many state parks offering trails for exposing a photographer to trees, waterfalls, moss, wildlife and other hikers.
