R.F. Kuang invokes some great atmospheric dread here (you just know this isn’t going to end well), but this definitely would have benefited from a bit more fleshing out of the characters and a lot more page length. Still enjoyed it though.

Terrifying in how close this hits to home right now. Set in the near future, imagine the people in charge of the US right now, and the billionaires and racists who exist in their orbit, armed with time travel technology. Now imagine how they would use this tech.

Good morning, Womble! Hope you’re feeling better. I’m currently lost in the house at Ash Tree Lane from House Of Leaves by Mark Danielewski. This book is a mind twisting experience and I’m not sure I’m ever going to find my way out! Have a great Sunday!

Reading House Of Leaves and my family probably thinks I’ve gone nuts; holding pages up to a mirror, translating pages in French to English, holding the book upside down at times, and just plain babbling to myself in my reading corner. *See footnote 289
Somewhere, Mark Danielewski is laughing. 🤪😱

A Douglas Adams book I just recently became aware of. Part travelogue, part love letter to the unsung heroes working very hard to keep a lot of awesome creatures from extinction. Funny, informative, entertaining, and heartbreaking. The dodo chapter made we want to cry. 😢

Vince Gilligan looks to have another winner on his hands. Episode one of Pluribus was a hell of a ride, and Rhea Seehorn was brilliant as always. Can’t wait to see more!

Indulged in some much needed retail therapy today. Damn, this book is heavy!

I love Carl and Donut so much, and will follow them to the end! Fantastic sequel! Hilarious and surprisingly poignant, this series is a blast, and Jeff Hays’ audio narration is absolutely bonkers. Definitely in this to the end.

The new Florence + The Machine album released today, and it’s a fucking masterpiece. What an awesome way to usher in this year’s Halloween. Moving on to some spooky movies, more House Of Leaves, and waiting for all the candy loving ghouls to arrive at my house tonight. Happy Halloween everybody! 🎃🎃🎃

Really enjoyed the 1st half of this book, with its crazy twists on what the monster actually was in this story, pushing me to say ‘what the fuck??’on more than one occasion. But this eventually evolved into silliness and boredom. I did love the very personal afterward though.

This new deluxe edition of Red Rising by Pierce Brown is so damn gorgeous, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed they do the entire series like this. A beautiful slipcase, thick paper, painted edges, and fucking maps! I love maps! 😃 Can’t believe how cheap this was too!

Finally got my hands on the Midworld Press edition of The Atlas Of Hell by Nathan Ballingrud and it’s beautiful! Worth every penny. This collection is easily in my top 5 in regard to favorite short story horror collections.

King Sorrow has arrived! And this book is about the size of a dragon! I’m going to need a bigger shelf. 🙂

Just watched and loved The Black Phone 2! @crobertcargill.bsky.social and Scott Derrickson have crafted one of those rare sequels that not only surpasses the original, but actually makes the original film even better now. And Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw knock it out of the park once again.

⭐️⭐️💫

Loved the illustrations, but I found the writing here to be completely lifeless. Just a painful reading experience. The pretty pictures are the only reasons I finished it. Huge disappointment.
3 stars for the illustrations.
1 star for the writing.
