I would say that's a part of it, but you gotta look at the big picture here. The DNC rolling over for conservatives has been a problem since the 90s but the far-left standing on their "moral high ground" is relatively newer.

Look at when the current learership of the DNC came up through the ranks: Reagan.
Much of the leadership of the DNC is still seemingly traumatized by Reagan's '84 victory and have never moved past that trauma, thus the abandonment of FDR/JFK/LBJ ideas and an embrace of "triangulation". 1/2

That's why we should have never stopped calling MAGA "weird".
They're desperate to not only be considered "normal", but they want to be the final arbiters or what really is "normal".

Yep. All the Boomer Reagan Dems just got a rude awakening: It's not 1993 anymore, Reagan is dead, and you will get out of that "Reagan Crouch" you've been in since the 90s one way or another.
