Given how much time BBC news and current affairs programmes gave this self-appointed nitwit to air his fantasy of post-Brexit Britain, one might think he’d look more kindly on the organisation. Of course, the faction that would benefit from its demise are post- or anti-truth politicians like him

The email comes from In Depth with Academia. What a joke. Destroying the Planet While Lowering Standards and Polluting our Culture would be more accurate

I like the way M&S doesn’t shame you by suggesting how many people this should serve. Although on the back of the box it does say you should carve it, rather than just put it on your plate

A third of the way through series six and someone has returned the copy of Humboldt’s Gift. They probably spent five years trying to read it before giving up

Part I of the novel explores reasons why the English language hasn’t changed much in recent decades (and into the future). Given how poor the book is, I wonder if that was McEwan’s attempt to cover himself against the change that both narrators - separated by over 100 years - sound just like him

David Niven plays the British minister, Sir Arthur Robertson (based on Sir Claude MacDonald), a bit of an unflappable Bond-type character (Niven went on to play Bond in Casino Royale 4 years later). I like the way he gently kicks aside the cushion to decline kneeling before the Empress Dowager Cixi
