Ditto about the “where they left us” as McCammon’s original was just that, taking characters in unexpected directions. His plots are one of his highlights, taking the characters on unexpected paths. I’m deep in the Matthew Corbetts now, and I couldn’t imagine a Teacup fate for such rich material.
