1. It is not safe.
2. It is too hilly.
3. It rains a lot.

You said it baffles you and now you give me life advice 😂
Why should I go through all the trauma of a house move for money I don't need. The biggest barrier is they just don't build houses for older downsizers so it becomes a worse lifestyle with little advantage.
November 27, 2025 at 4:50 PM
Moving is far too expensive to make downsizing attractive. And developers don't create suitable houses for older downsizers. What am I supposed to do with the equity anyway? Put it in a savings account and watch it depreciate?

Don't worry. No miles involved. All distances in EU are kilometres 😇
November 27, 2025 at 2:21 PM
Still trying to get my head round paying UK taxes per mile on my kilometres in Spain. Often 35 per cent of my annual driving - using cheaper Spanish electricity.

I can't give them credit for energy bill support. They refuse to address the UK energy model of private energy monopolies ripping us all off. So it is more conscience money.

Chief Reporter for Bylines said the (now temporary) freeze on fuel duty was a subsidy to motorists! 😂
(I have an EV - I'm impartial).

Too simplistic. Adversarial system -v- inquisitorial. Plus UK lack of trust in an unrepresentative, elite judiciary. Compounded by increasingly authoritarian government. We need juries to deal with legal injustice. Palestine Action being the latest manifestation.

I imagine this is a meaningful distinction to the Westminster bubble but simply is blah blah to the rest of us appalled by Blue Labour's cruelty.
November 26, 2025 at 8:27 PM
I guess the continuing hidden rises in income tax is not so good as you didn't mention it. Or the absence of a strategy for growth. Or the complete failure to use a huge majority to reform tax so it is fairer and treats non-earned income in the same way as us wage slaves.

Not really within the scope of my point. I suggest you ask a solicitor about where specific charges might be heard.
November 26, 2025 at 8:10 PM
But that is obviously not enough because of the risk of Purgatory and therefore the market in indulgences. Especially Plenary indulgences that can be banked until death. Hence my "indulge" 😉
November 26, 2025 at 6:11 PM
They can make an act of contrition - but it is not a required part of the process - and the Vatican pro-forma is "O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of thy just punishments." (which sounds like punishment avoidance).
November 26, 2025 at 6:11 PM
I was going to reply "confession doesn't wipe away sin" but I will indulge you! 😇

The German criminal trial system is inquisitorial - unlike the adversarial UK system. Hard to compare.
November 26, 2025 at 3:19 PM
Except for very serious cases, motoring offences are normally decided by magistrates without a jury.

UK has an adversarial trial approach and most EU countries have an "investigate to get the truth" system. So apples and pears maybe?
November 26, 2025 at 3:14 PM
Not sure about this. Mostly the justice system in these countries is not adversarial but investigative. I'd like more positive evidence about the safety of this proposed change in UK's system.
November 26, 2025 at 3:09 PM
OMG.
MPs really need to understand how this works.

UK can negotiate and join a NEW customs union between EU and UK. What UK can't do is join the EU customs union.
November 26, 2025 at 3:04 PM
If I am innocent I really do want to "get off". The other stuff is a result of a decision by the government not to adequately fund the justice system.
