Text of LinkedIn post from Brian Reed, host of "Question Everything": I was at the Senate today and it was alarming. The government is shut down and the parties are at loggerheads. Meanwhile Mitch McConnell went by and he looked awful. He can’t walk alone, he’s escorted by somebody after multiple public falls.The reporters’ scrum didn’t even bother shouting his name because it was clear he didn’t seem capable of responding. As someone who reads the news and knows McConnell isn’t doing well but who does not report regularly in DC, seeing him up close was shocking. Meanwhile John Fetterman really struggled to express himself clearly. There’s been reporting on staffers’ concerns with his mental health post-stroke, but again, seeing it up close was alarming. Something about the whole scene - and how the press seems to get used to this stuff - while Congress is in so much dysfunction - it was disturbing. I felt the picture we’re getting of what’s happening there doesn’t capture the reality. And our leaders are not being held to a basic standard of needing to be equipped to do these jobs. And it’s obviously not just these two.
